Do we need music? Well...I do.

Do we need music? I always have thought that music is NOT essential in our life. It sounds silly because I make music and selling it. But there is a reason for this. In Japan, there are a lot of disasters (earthquakes, typhoons, heavy snows etc) and when they hit there is nothing music can do. People need foods, shelter, water and money to but them to survive. So, compared to these essentials, music is not quite needed.

But life seems (or sounds) so boring without music. When you have already essentials like foods, are you really fulfilled? The answer is not simple. I think the answer would vary time to time. To search for the answer, I thought it would be a good idea to look back at my life and how it had been connected with music.

When I was very small, music was not my main interest. I listened to the Beatles, Michael Jackson because my parents liked them. Did I need music? I do not think so.

I started the piano when I was six. It was my parent’s decision and I just followed it. Music suddenly became clearly part of my life. Music was what I had to do rather than what I loved to do. It was when I was 11 or 12 that I started the guitar. It was my decision. I formed a band with my friends and I continued the piano as well. I started to have interest in music abroad. It was the UK music that drew my attention the most.

Then, I got chance to go to a university in the UK. I studied politics and philosophy. Not music, because I thought music is something to enjoy, and not to pursue as academic. At this time I started to make music with my laptop.

After I graduated from the university, I was sort of... did not know what to do. I started a band with my friends but I quitted.

On the other hand, I married to a woman who plays the flute! Power of music, probably...

Writing my life with music, I still do not know whether I have needed music... But music changed the way I see the world. Foods never changed my thought or my house has never changed my life like music has done.

I cannot imagine life without music. I need music to enjoy my life.
